The Simple Joys of Working for Rock-N-Water

Everyone’s face was illuminated by the warm glow of the fire. A group of about twenty people sat in a circle around a campfire. Everyone was tired after a full day of adventuring and with bellies full of a delicious camp meal.  Stories from the day’s outing circulated around the campfire and laughter filled the air.  Memories were being made and new friendships were being formed. The leader of the group quietly pulled out his guitar and skillfully lead everyone into worship. One by one each person began lifting up their voices and singing praises to God.

It was such a beautiful sight to behold. As the voices filled the night sky I couldn’t contain the joy I felt deep down in my soul.  Hearing all the voices come together as one to sing God’s praises made my heart fill with warmth. I couldn’t stop myself from joining in.  Seeing the happiness and joy on everyone’s faces as they sat around the campfire sharing a special experience together gave me the most real sense of joy I’ve ever experienced.

I believe that joy and happiness are vital ingredients for living a healthy life.

The event that I shared above took place at Rock-N-Water and it’s an experience I’ll never forget. During the summer I worked for Rock-N-Water as an adventure guide and camp cook.  Each day during the summer I would help lead groups of people on adventures, which included; whitewater rafting, hiking, and rock climbing.  Then, after a day of adventuring, each night the groups would participate in a campfire.  Campfire was a time to share with each other about the challenges faced and the memories made.  Lastly, the night was ended with worship songs and prayer.

I believe that one of the best things about working at Rock-N-Water was getting to watch people face their fears and then overcome those fears each day.  The joy that comes after facing a fear is a pure and wonderful joy. It makes me so happy to know that I was able to be a part of helping others find this kind of joy.  Happiness is contagious and seeing others happy makes me happy. Helping others find joy has given me a sense of purpose and satisfaction each day I work at Rock-N-Water.

When we have joy, it doesn’t always have to be related to a specific experience or achievement.  I believe that the best type of joy is found when we are helping and serving others, which is why I find so much joy when I work at this camp. All of the staff here at Rock-N-Water are passionate about loving others and serving others.  But I also believe that joy is found when we are connected to people who love us and share experiences with us.  Sharing experiences with the campers and staff of Rock-N-Water has definitely been the highlight of my summer and my biggest source of joy.

Rock-N-Water is my community where I find joy

Rock-N-Water is a community where joy flourishes. When people come to this camp they have a unique opportunity to let go of all the troubles of life and focus on the moment.  They are able to make new friendships and make old friendships stronger. They get to overcome fears together and experience joy together as a group. Then, when the group goes home, they are filled with joy and closeness because of the shared experiences they all had at this camp.

Without this camp, I know that my life, and the life and many others,  would be very different. This camp has allowed me to be a part of a community that serves others and brings joy to others.  When people come to this camp their lives are changed. They get to experience joy by cherishing the simple moments in life. It is so amazing to see how people can come from all over the country, and from different types of backgrounds, to form a community that is full of joy and happiness.

Rock-n-Water is a community of amazing people! and when you come to camp you get to be a part of that community!

Want to be a part of the Rock-N-Water community?  You can find out more about the different opportunities we offer on our website,  we’d love to see you this summer!
