Guide School

Rock-N-Water has been blessed again with a very high return of staff, and does not have any open positions available for new paid summer staff in 2010.

Guide school will therefore only be open to returning staff and part time staff off site.

If you still want to serve here, please consider the Volunteer Program. Or, if you live in the area and like the idea of filling in on a few trips here and there please give us a call.

There is no experience required for this two week course (10 days of instruction) designed to provide students with the foundational skills and information necessary to become a class III white water guide, a top-rope climbing instructor, and to work in outdoor ministry. (Approximately 6-7 days on the river, 3-4 on the rocks depending on class needs)

Since Rock-N-Water's beginning in 1989 we have enjoyed training and hiring dozens of guides each year. We are thrilled to invest our knowledge of guiding and outdoor youth ministry into students enthusiastic about this mission field.

The course will focus on basic skills, safety, injury/incident prevention, communication, the big picture, environmental concerns, equipment rigging/care, working in outdoor youth ministry, and encouraging the pursuit of further experience after the course.

Potential graduates of this Guide School are encouraged to apply for paid summer employment at Rock-N-Water. Letters of introduction mailed by January 1st receive highest priority.

Cost: $750 - Partial scholarships available for potential staff
