49er Fun - The Greenhorn
A one day gold rush adventure
This is a one time option available to schools that have never been on a 49er Fun trip with us in the past and want to test the water before jumping into one of our overnight field trips. This day trip is cram-packed full with small samples from our overnight trips to give you a taste of what 49er Fun with Rock-N-Water is all about. While it's good trip, we do caution you that you, your parents, and especially your 4th graders will leave hungry for more. So if you can get your parents and leadership on board, we strongly recommend you jump right into one of our overnight trips (The Mother Lode | The Prospector | The Double Jack).
We meet each other at our claim in Coloma California where you meet our living history guides and are transported back to 1854 just after the height of the California gold rush. We start by teaching you what life was like back in 1854 as we pan for gold, make rope and bead necklaces, learn how the Maidu Indians lived off the land, play some games, grow in our Christian faith, and take a short quiet time devotional hike.
After a great lunch we move onto Gold Bug Park in Placerville California where we'll explore some restored gold mines as we learn about mining, play some more games, and explore the area. After we are fully exhausted from a full day of fun and adventure in history and God’s creation, we’ll gather together for some last thoughts before waving goodbye.
