Guide School

An intensive two week training program for individuals 18 years old and older who are interested in learning more about working in outdoor youth ministry.

Since Rock-N-Water's beginning in 1989 we have enjoyed training and hiring dozens of guides each year. We are thrilled to invest our knowledge of guiding and outdoor youth ministry into students enthusiastic about this mission field.

There is no experience required for this two week course (10 days of instruction) designed to provide students with the foundational skills and information necessary to become a class III whitewater rafting guide, a top-rope climbing instructor, and to work in outdoor ministry. Instruction will vary each year based on the needs of each guide school but typically include 6-7 days of river training and 3-4 of rock climbing training.

The course will focus on basic skills, safety, injury/incident prevention, communication, the big picture, environmental concerns, equipment rigging/care, working in outdoor youth ministry, and encouraging the pursuit of further experience after the course.

Potential graduates of this Guide School are encouraged to apply for paid summer employment at Rock-N-Water. Letters of introduction mailed by January 1st receive highest priority.

Optional

There will be an optional Standard First Aid & CPR class on the middle Saturday of training for those that are interested for $50.
